Tennis Etiquette
Players are urged to observe the rules of tennis etiquette recognized over the years. Particularly important are the following examples of courtesy and good manners:
- Enter and exit your court by its own door, especially when there are players on the adjoining court.
- Vacate court promptly when your time is up in order to be fair to players with the reservation following yours and to allow the staff time for court preparation. Please do not ask to "finish the game" or to "play one more point".
- Please do not walk behind players in adjoining courts to retrieve a ball; wait for them to retrieve balls when there is a break in play. Don't return balls to next court when a point is being played there.
- Remember that your exclamations and conversation may be disturbing to players in games on other courts.
- Always give the benefit of any doubt on a line call or other judgment situation to your opponent and expect the same consideration from him/her.
- Learn the foot-fault rule and observe it carefully.
- Familiarize yourself with USTA rules and The Code published by the USTA, and play in accordance with the rules and under the provisions of The Code.
- Above all, make playing tennis a fun and pleasurable experience for yourself, your opponents, and other Club members and guests at all times.
