The Boathouse Tennis Center is a world-class facility with nine Har-Tru clay courts. The professional coaching staff offers personalized lessons and clinics for players of all abilities. This includes daily adult clinics, organized play, weekly events and tournaments. The highly regarded junior program includes clinics, special events and a tennis academy for children ages 3 to 18.
Doug Browne – Director of Tennis
Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin; (Doug is a devout Green Bay Packer fan) Doug also lived in Portland, Oregon and Sioux City, Iowa. He was a highly ranked junior tennis player in each state and played number one on his high school teams all four years earning a tennis scholarship to the University of Iowa of the Big Ten Conference.After college, Doug accepted the position as the top assistant for the University of New Mexico men’s tennis team. While in Albuquerque, he met his future wife, Leslie Holmquist – a star for the Lady Lobos.
Doug eventually accepted a job as Head Professional at the Cypresswood Country Club in Winter Haven, Florida. Doug was also the Head Men’s Coach at Webber International in Lake Wales, Florida. Highlights in the area include being the number one and undefeated husband-wife team compiling a record of 50-0. Additionally, Doug’s top junior, Tommy Ho, became the top singles player in the world. Later in Doug’s Floridian career, he was named “USPTA Pro of the Year for Collier County (Naples) on three different occasions.During the summer of 2010 he was appointed the Director of Tennis at the prestigious Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. Doug Browne joined The Boathouse Field Club in 2011 as the Club’s Director of Tennis, where he is now in his eighth season. Doug and Leslie love coaching all levels of tennis at the Field Club and love the surrounding community.
Leslie was a highly successful Division 1 tennis standout from the University of New Mexico. Originally from Fairfield, CT, Leslie is a former top-ranked New England junior and has held numerous Florida USTA adult rankings including number one in and undefeated in women’s 25 doubles and husband-wife mixed doubles. Doug & Leslie were the number 1 Florida team for three consecutive years and never lost a match in competition.
Doug is returning for his second season at the Club. Doug is currently attending Florida State University where he is a star player on the FSU Club team. Prior to FSU he was the captain on the tennis team at Barron Collier HS, Naples and helped the team become State Champions.
In the summers of 2013 – 2015 he was an Assistant Tennis Instructor at the Bay Colony Club, Naples, FL and the Assistant Tennis Pro at Killarn Country Club, Tallahassee in the summer of 2016. He was a former top ranked junior player in Florida and is an experiences teacher with good communication skills and a big serve! As with last season, Doug will bring is endless enthusiasm to Cardio Tennis and the Junior Tennis Academy and he is looking forward to another season at the Club.
Tobias “Toby” Niles is a certified USPTA Professional and has a degree in Secondary Education from the University Of Vermont (UVM).
Toby was the former Head Assistant at the Quechee Club in Vermont and the River Valley Indoor Club in New Hampshire. At the Quechee Club, Toby provided high-energy tennis lessons and clinics for players of all ages and managed week-long summer day camps for up to 25 junior players.
In addition to being an excellent tennis player and coach, Toby is a standout skier and instructor, avid cyclist and scholar athlete. He will return to the River Valley Club after Labor Day.
