Tennis Academy

The Boathouse Tennis Academy is tailored to junior players who are serious about the game and are ready to take their game to the next level. The Academy will be offered for four hours per day, Monday through Thursday. Doug and Leslie Browne will direct the program and work with individual players to analyze their game and develop skills and court/match strategy. The program is for players 10 to 17 years of age who can demonstrate a NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) player rating of 3.1 or higher.

The Pros

Tennis AcademyDoug Browne has been the Director of Tennis at the Hideaway Beach Club on Marco Island, FL for 25 years. Doug earned the Naples, Florida USPTA Pro of the Year honors in 2006 and again in 2010. During the summer of 2010 he was appointed the Director of Tennis at the prestigious Hall of Fame in Newport, RI and has held the title of Executive Director/President of the Collier County Community Tennis Association since 1998. Doug Browne is no stranger to teaching all levels of tennis; his student, Tommy Ho, became the number one junior player in the world and former student Lauren Embree is the current number one U of Florida player. (Currently in the semi-finals in the NCAA women’s singles championships). Both Doug and Leslie have a strong appetite to coach juniors of all levels of the game.

Leslie Browne was a highly successful Division 1 tennis standout from the University of New Mexico. Originally from Fairfield, CT, Leslie is a former top-ranked New England junior and has held numerous Florida USTA adult rankings including number one in and undefeated in women’s 25 doubles and husband-wife mixed doubles. Doug & Leslie were the number 1 Florida team for three consecutive years and never lost a match in competition.

Adam Cummings, a rising 2nd year student at Concord Academy, is another super addition to the tennis team.  Both Adam and Kevin Zhenn have been instrumental with the watering and rolling of all 9 clay courts this season.

Benji Page begins his 3rd summer in the Tennis Department and has grown to be one of the top coaches.  Additionally, Benji assists with running the Pro Shop and is a major asset to the Boathouse Field Club.  He just completed his second year at St. Anslem College in New Hampshire and was heavily involved with the political process this past winter.

Chase Urban, Cornell graduate, is in his second season at the Boathouse Field Club tennis program.  He previously taught tennis at the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club and the Vineyard Youth program.  Chase loves working with kids and was a key standout with the MWF Kids’ Clinics as well as the Academy.  He is also a top racket stringer.

Alex Slobin enters his first season with the Boathouse Field Club tennis program after completing his first year at Merrimack College.  As you may recall, our first Head Professional, Max Eppley, was also a star tennis player from Merrimack.  Alex’s father, Scott Slobin, is a long time top pro from the Patterson Club in Fairfield, Connecticut.  Since early high school, Alex was a part of Scott’s team at the Patterson Club and has gained valuable experience in the industry.

Kevin Zhenn, from Miama, Florida, is a new addition to our tennis team and already a huge favorite with staff and members.  Kevin just graduated from Exeter and has been awarded a full academic scholarship to Yale in the fall.  Welcome, Kevin!
