The Boathouse Tennis Academy is tailored to junior players who are serious about the game and are ready to take their game to the next level. The Academy will be offered for four hours per day, Monday through Thursday. Doug and Leslie Browne will direct the program and work with individual players to analyze their game and develop skills and court/match strategy. The program is for players 10 to 17 years of age who can demonstrate a NTRP (National Tennis Rating Program) player rating of 3.1 or higher.
Doug Browne hails from Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he was a leading junior player from Wisconsin and the Westerns Association in singles and doubles. Doug was appointed Director of Tennis at the Ocean view Tennis Club in Stamford, Connecticut where he began his professional career. He was the Director of Tennis at the Hideaway Beach Club on Marco Island, FL for 25 years. Doug earned the Naples, Florida USPTA Pro of the Year honors in 2006 and again in 2010. During the summer of 2010 he was appointed the Director of Tennis at the prestigious Hall of Fame in Newport, RI and has held the title of Executive Director/President of the Collier County Community Tennis Association since 1998. Both Doug and Leslie have a strong appetite to coach juniors of all levels of the game and they are beginning their 7th season at The Boathouse Club.
Leslie Browne was a highly successful Division 1 tennis standout from the University of New Mexico. Originally from Fairfield, CT, Leslie is a former top-ranked New England junior and has held numerous Florida USTA adult rankings including number one in and undefeated in women’s 25 doubles and husband-wife mixed doubles. Doug & Leslie were the number 1 Florida team for three consecutive years and never lost a match in competition.
Adam Cummings is a rising 3nd year student at Concord Academy and a super addition to the Boathouse tennis team. Adam is returning for his second season at the Club and will work in the in the Pro shop and assist with court maintenance and the Foretees Reservation System.
Benji Page begins his 4th summer in the Tennis Department. Benji grew up in Concord, Massachusetts but has enjoyed numerous summers on the Vineyard. Benji just completed his third year at St. Anslem College in New Hampshire. Along with coaching, he also assists with running the Pro Shop and just celebrated his 21st birthday
Chase Urban is a Cornell graduate with a degree in the Hotel-Restaurant program and he is in his fourth season at The Boathouse Club. He previously taught tennis at the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club and the Vineyard Youth Tennis program. Chase loves working with junior members and also runs the very popular Cardio Tennis clinics. Chase is our primary racket stringer and he is experienced with all grades of string including natural gut.
Grace Conrad grew up in Armonk, New York and has a family home in Oak Bluffs. Grace just finished her first year at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania. She is one of their stars on the tennis team and has experience coaching at the Armonk International Tennis Academy. Grace will work in the pro shop and teach tennis with various programs including our junior tennis academy.
Catherine Urban has been a long time resident of the Vineyard and grew up in Rochester, New York and graduated from Cornell University with an undergraduate and master’s degree. She is a strong adult tennis player and will work in the Pro Shop and assist with mixers and other fun events.

Players are encouraged to sign-up for a one week minimum but daily drop in is available.
