Kid’s Club – Ages 3-5
New for 2016, the Kid’s Club program, ages 3-5, has been redesigned to focus on academic areas of literacy, math, science, the arts, and foreign language. Weekly themes will highlight Vineyard connections and incorporate children’s creative thinking, collaboration, and problem solving skills in an engaging and safe atmosphere. The program will be led by an experienced educator.
Week 1: June 20-June 24
Let’s explore feathers and beaks. How do birds look different, and how do they look the same? How do birds make nests? Learn to use microscopes and hand lenses. Paint camouflaged eggs and read ¿Eres tú mi mamá? and El Mejor Nido, by P.D. Eastman.
Week 2: June 27-July 1
All About Boats
How do boats float? Can we make boats that float? Join us as we explore the world of boats, big and small; sailboats, rowboats, fishing boats and ferries!
Week 3: July 4-July 8
What is seaweed? What is sand made of? Can you name some shells we find on the Vineyard? What do fish scales look like with a microscope? Join us as we answer these questions and sift some sand, make beautiful fish prints and seaweed art.
Week 4: July 11-July 15
My Five Senses
This week we will explore the five senses and discover how these senses help us understand the world we live in. Through hands-on activities, children will learn that they use their eyes to see, their skin to touch, their noses to smell, their ears to hear, and their tongues to taste.
Week 5: July 18-July 22
Together we will explore music using foundational concepts of loud/quiet, fast/slow, beat and rhythm. We will listen to and learn about music from around the world and make our own music with Rick Bausman and his Rhythm of Life program.
Week 6: July 25-July 29
What do we see flying around the club? NASA helps out this week as we work on an Alphabet Activity Book. We will explore flight by making planes and kites, and learn about hot air balloons, helicopters, and rockets.
Week 7: August 1-August 5
Let’s build some tents and camp out at the club! We can pretend to make a campfire and cook out, go fishing, and make a sit-upon. We will tell campfire stories, go on a hike and learn about the great outdoors.
Week 8: August 8-August 12
What do plants need to grow? How do plants help us grow? Let’s plan a weeklong experiment, and record what we see each day. We will read Little Acorn Grows Up, by Edward Gibbs, and explore literacy concepts with rhyming words games, and math concepts by counting seeds and writing numbers.
Week 9: August 15-August 19
Maps and Mazes
A week of making maps of our club, treasure maps, marble mazes and more! Learn about maps and build spatial thinking skills. Practice reading maps with games and understand directional words like next to, between, near and far.
Week 10: August 22-August 26
The final week of camp will be all about puppets! We will build and decorate our own stage, make puppets and write and perform our own puppet show.
